La biografía permite abordar con gran coherencia los tiempos cortos, los tiempos de una vida, situar al personaje en su individualidad y en la del entorno de las personas y circunstancias que han encuadrado su vida. Ella sola puede dar a los historiadores la dimensión del tiempo de una vida, la que vivieron los hombres y las mujeres biografiados. El nuevo interés por la biografía viene dado por la historia de las mujeres, de lo cotidiano, de la vida cotidiana, del interés por la cultura popular. Es necesario reconstruir la “surface social” sobre la que se mueve cada individualidad en una pluralidad de campos a cada instante. Hemos tratado de introducir, siguiendo casos particulares, problemas generales, no sólo de altos personajes femeninos sino también de pequeñas vidas de mujeres comunes.

Biography allows to approach with great coherence the short times, the times of a life, to locate the personage in its individuality and the surroundings of people and circumstances that have fitted their life. Single it can give to the historians the dimension of the time of a life, the one that lived biographied men and women. The new interest on biography comes women’s history, the daily life, from the interest on popular culture. It is necessary to reconstruct the “social surface” on which each individuality moves constantly in a plurality of fields. We have tried to introduce, following general cases, particular problems, not only of high feminine personages but also of small lives of common women.
