Rob W.H. Butler(School of Earth Sciences, University of Leeds, U.K.): In this site it is possible to make a "virtual field excursion" to some key fold-and-thrust belts, with a useful visualization of geological maps, structural cross-sections (some of them restored), and outcrops views, with some key data on the metamorphism and exhumation history. Field observations on geological structures at micro- to mesoscale are presented in the Nanga Pargat, the Internal Alps and the Subalpine fold and thrust belt of the External French Alps. There are also several proposition of exercices on 3D reconstruction of folds, deformation analysis and metamorphic evolution (e.g. migmatites generation); together with a selection of references on these mountain belts.
