Abstract
Integrating
technology into Evidence-Based Psychotherapy.
Towards the “4th wave” in cognitive-behavioral
therapy?
Taking into consideration the
three wave conceptualization of the way which
cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has evolved,
we propose a that a new “(r)evolution” is
prefigured. The “4th wave” CBT will be discussed
in this symposium based on the integration of
new advances in (1) clinical cognitive sciences
(e.g. implicit processes, embodied cognitions)
and (2) technological developments (e.g.,
virtual realities, online and computer-based
interventions). The symposium will offer a
comprehensive perspective on the integration of
technology and discoveries from fundamental
cognitive sciences research (emotion-regulation,
attention bias modification) into the CBT
framework. We will conclude with a general
discussion of future directions in what we have
called the “4th wave” in CBT, and implications
of the discoveries in fundamental research and
technology in CBT theory and practice will be
emphasized.
