Abstract

The effects of age on exocrine pancreatic secretion were studied in "granadina" breed suckling goats, aged 7-28 days, and chronically catheterized with reentrant cannulas. Pancreatic juice was collected one hour before meal intake up to the eight postprandial hour, and pancreatic flow rate, bicarbonate and chloride secretion, total protein and enzyrne activities were subsequently assesed.
Our results showed differences among the pancreatic secretion either in resting condition or after meal intake, at different ages. These changes are marked in the fourth week of life, a phenomenon which may indicate maturation in preparation for the imminent change in the anirnal's diet.
