English
Hodgkin´s diseasedefinition: relative rare cancer that develops in the lymphatic system that is characterized by painless enlargement of lymphatic tissues and the spleen, and the presence of large, usually multinucleate, cells (Reed-Sternberg cells) of unknown origin. There are four different cell types of Hodgkin's disease: lymphocyte predominant, nodular sclerosis, mixed cellularity, and lymphocyte depleted. The symptoms of Hodgkin's disease are a painless swelling under the arm or in the neck or groin, and fever, night sweats, feeling tired, weight loss, or itchy skin. Blood tests, X rays of the chest, bones, liver, and spleen, and a biopsy of tissue from an enlarged lymph node are used in the diagnosis. Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and also bone marrow transplantation are potential treatments of the disease. (en)
