ovarian cancer | definition: cancer which originates in the female reproductive organs called ovaries, usually in their outer layer. The most common types of ovarian cancer are epitheliomas: serous cystedenocarcinoma, mucinous cystadenocarcinoma, endometroid adenocarcinoma, and clear cell cystadenocarcinoma. The symptoms of ovarian cancer may include abdominal swelling or bloating, discomfort in the lower part of the abdomen, feeling full after a light meal, nausea, vomiting, not feeling hungry, gas, indigestion, weight loss, constant need to urinate, diarrhea or constipation, or non-menstrual bleeding. The main diagnosis techniques are internal exam of the uterus, vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, and rectum, a PAP smear, ultrasound, blood and urine tests, and X rays, although CT scan, lymphangiography, IVP, lower GI series, exploratory laparotomy or biopsy can also be made. Treatment may be surgery (total abdominal hysterectomy, unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and tumor debulking), radiation therapy and chemotherapy. cáncer de ovarios | definition: cáncer derivado de los órganos reproductores femeninos denominados ovarios, que normalmente se desarrolla en la capa exterior. La forma más frecuente de cáncer de ovarios es el epitelioma: cistadenocarcinoma seroso, cistadenocarcinoma mucinoso, adenocarcinoma endometrial y cistadenocarcinoma de células claras. Los síntomas del cáncer de ovarios son edema o distensión abdominal, molestias en la parte superior del abdomen, saciedad tras comidas ligeras, náuseas, vómitos, pérdida de peso y apetito, gases, indigestión, incontinencia urinaria, diarrea o estreñimiento y hemorragias vaginales. Las técnicas diagnósticas comprenden exploración interna de útero, vagina, trompas de falopio, vejiga y recto, citología vaginal, ecografía, análisis de sangre y orina y rayos X; de todas formas, también se pueden realizar TAC, linfografía, pielograma intravenoso, series gastrointestinales inferiores, laparotomía exploradora y biopsia.
