Anthropology studies humanity in all of its aspects: our relationship to the material world, our evolution as a species, and our social practices, traditions and cultures. As a discipline, it draws upon the social and the biological sciences, as well as the humanities and the natural sciences. It studies diversity from comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives.
Our students are given comprehensive and versatile training, acquiring the skills necessary to work effectively in a range of multicultural societies, with ample knowledge of cultural variations, modes of existence, and sources of conflict.
Our Degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology is based in the Humanities Faculty, an outstanding educational centre with a wealth of educational resources at its disposal. Granada itself is a great example of the diversity that can be found in human cultures: a vibrant, multicultural city with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Our teaching staff have a great deal of experience in teaching and managing projects related to anthropology (in areas such as migration, folklore, popular religion, and education, to mention just a few) They are highly experienced professionals both in teaching and research.
This four-year degree is comprised of three learning stages: basic subjects, core subjects and elective subjects. These subjects include contents in knowledge areas such as anthropology, history, sociology, politics, economics, geography, religion and cultures, ethnography, migrations, archaeology, and modern languages.
Public institutions, NGOs and private sector organisations and companies seek professional anthropologists for a wide range of positions. Our graduates often go on to become experts in cultural diversity and intercultural relations in companies and international organisations, or in international cooperation projects in developing countries. They can also go on to work to keep the heritage of any culture safe by means of different conservation projects. Additionally, they can seek employment in the media. They also acquire the training necessary to pursue further postgraduate studies and research in this ever-expanding field.
Anthropology studies human beings and communities, and their interactions with the world around them, in the past and the present. As our evolution as a species continues, the field of anthropology is constantly supplied with more phenomena and materials to engage with. Our development as a multicultural and global society has produced even more reasons for anthropology to exist: only people who understand different cultures and the diversity found in humankind can help others work and live together in harmony.
