European Aquatics accredits the UGR Aquatics Lab as a high-performance science centre

This exclusive distinction, which has only been awarded to one other laboratory to date, demonstrates the research excellence of this UGR centre located at the Faculty of Sport Sciences.

European Aquatics, the European organisation for swimming and other aquatic sports, has accredited the UGR Aquatics Lab as a «Sport Science & High-Performance Centre».

This European Aquatics programme aims to improve the training environments and scientific support available to European athletes. Before granting accreditation, the organisation assesses the quality of each laboratory’s facilities, commitment to innovation, and the overall support it provides to athletes.

Accredited centres gain visibility and prestige thanks to this quality seal of approval from European Aquatics. They also gain access to a collaborative network where ideas are shared and advances in aquatic sports are promoted.

The initiative supports athletes in all aquatic disciplines, including swimming, water polo, diving, high diving, artistic swimming, and open water swimming. The programme represents an important step towards improving training environments and scientific support for European athletes. The Gloria Sports Arena (Turkey) is the only other European laboratory to have been awarded this accreditation, obtaining it on the same date as the UGR Aquatics Lab at the Faculty of Sport Sciences.
