English Language Teaching and Learning
Introduction: epistemology
Any area of scientific knowledge has an epistemology. Language Learning and Teaching has a long history of study and reflection behind it, and it is important to know it. Read Chapter 1 in Madrid & McLaren (2004) and prepare a glossary of important terms. Make a poster with those terms.
Theories and methods of teaching and learning languages
The activity of language teaching has been dominated by a number of "methods" and "approaches" which still determine, normally covertly, our daily practice in subtle ways; at the same time, the knowledge of these teaching tendencies can provide us with different resources to teach. Both arguments require from us a historical and critical approach to language teaching theories and methodologies.
