The University of Granada recently launched the 5th edition of its massive open online course (MOOC) entitled ‘The Alhambra: History, Art and Heritage’. This online course can be taken free of charge and is available in Spanish, English and Arabic.
The Alhambra and Generalife palaces in Granada are widely regarded as ranking among the most outstanding examples of Islamic architecture in the world. In 1984, along with the labyrinth-like historical quarter known as the Albaicín, they were declared UNESCO world heritage sites — further adding to Granada's reputation as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The Alhambra: History, Art and Heritage MOOC is a unique and pioneering course which has been developed jointly by the University of Granada and ‘La Escuela de la Alhambra’. Over the course of a six-week programme you will learn about the history and aesthetics of the Alhambra — the citadel, palace and city that were built by the last state of Al-Andalus, the Nasrid Sultanate. You will also have the opportunity to explore the processes that went into its construction, as well as the conservation policies that have been adopted to protect it. The course aims to provide you with university level-education, offering a challenging, user-friendly and rewarding learning experience.

With tailor-made audiovisual materials, supplementary teaching resources, discussion forums and direct assistance, the course is an excellent way to discover one of the most breathtaking monuments and historical sites in the world.
