Medicine is the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, encompassing a great number of health care practices aimed at restoring health and preventing illness in human beings. In Spain, the right to universal health care is stated in the legislation, and most notably in our Constitution. We have a mixed health care system in which public health care institutions work alongside private clinics.
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Granada has a long-standing and prestigious tradition nationally and internationally. We strive to provide students with the means to become excellent professionals able to successfully respond to the expectations and demands of today’s society.
As a student on our Degree in Medicine, you will gain the knowledge and skills to address the problems related to human health. Our programme has been designed to comply with the official requirements set by the Spanish Ministry of Education, enabling our graduates to effectively perform medicine in Spanish territory.
Our six-year Degree in Medicine is composed of five modules: 1) Morphology, Structure and Functions of the human body; 2) Social Medicine, Communication Skills and the Fundamentals of Research; 3) Clinical Training; 4) Therapeutic and Diagnostic Procedures; 5) Supervised Internship and Dissertation.
While studying this Degree, you will take subjects in areas like biochemistry, anatomy, biostatistics, physiology, histology, cell biology, psychology, communication, surgery, anaesthesiology, microbiology, parasitology, pathology, ophthalmology, radiology, dermatology, gynaecology, paediatrics, preventative medicine and emergency care.
You will begin your internship on your third year of study, increasing the internship time progressively each year that you advance, until its highest extent in sixth year. Your internship phase will be carried out at the different public health centres in Granada.
Our graduates have a high employment rate, generally finding work within two years of completing their studies. Graduates find work in many different areas, such as public or private health care, teaching, research, business, industry (for instance pharmaceutical companies) or management and consultancy.
