Social education encompasses all education taught in social matters, encompassing areas such as the family, community development, migration, diversity, and social integration. It is a relatively new field, which was first conceived as a professional discipline, and then transformed into a full-fledged university discipline.
Our Degree in Social Education aims to prepare students for the professional demands of becoming a social educator, working with diverse groups from different social and cultural backgrounds. The Education Sciences Faculty is located in the Cartuja Campus, an excellent location, which it shares with many other faculties, and consequently all of the University’s resources are at the student’s disposal. Moreover, our teaching staff are highly experienced in the field of social education, as well as in teaching and in research.
This four-year Degree is comprised of four learning stages: basic subjects, core subjects, a compulsory 24-credit internship programme, and elective subjects. The internship programme can be completed in a wide range of organisations and institutions, as social education includes many different areas (child protection, sociocultural matters, environment education, development cooperation, gender inequality, to mention but a few areas) Subjects include contents in many knowledge areas, such as education theory, social psychology, social pedagogy, sociology, social diversity, lifelong education, culture and art, and development cooperation.
Social educators work closely with different sectors in society, with a view to bringing about positive social changes, and the promotion of positive values and socio-economic transformations. Professional social educators are vital, endeavouring, as they do, to achieve effective social integration and equality in society.
